Valentines DIY Aperture Card Tutorial

Looking for a free Valentine’s cross stitch pattern that’s quick, beginner-friendly and perfect for handmade gifting? You’re in the right place.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be big, shiny or over-the-top. Some of the most meaningful gifts are small, thoughtful and handmade, especially when they involve a little time spent stitching. Homemade gifts are the best!

I’ve created a free Valentine’s cross stitch design that you can download and stitch at home. It’s ideal for beginners, last-minute Valentine’s makes, or anyone who loves modern, simple cross stitch projects.

If you’re new to cross stitch, this pattern is a great place to start. And if you’re an experienced stitcher, it’s a lovely quick project you can finish in just a few cosy sessions.

Because the design is small, it’s also ideal for turning into handmade cards, mini hoop art, or thoughtful stitched gifts.

How to Make a DIY Aperture Card with Your Cross Stitch

One of our favourite ways to use this Valentine’s cross stitch design is to turn it into a DIY aperture card.

An aperture card allows your stitching to sit neatly inside the card, showing off the finished design while keeping it protected. It’s a brilliant way to elevate a simple cross stitch into a polished, handmade Valentine’s card.

We’ve shared a full step-by-step DIY aperture card tutorial on Instagram, showing you exactly how to cut the aperture and mount your finished stitching.
